Fury UK

Manchester Hark 2 Trowler

August 18th 2007

Review - John Consterdine

In rock and heavy metal, it could be said that three is the magic number, Motorhead, Rush, Budgie and Raven, to name but a few, are all three piece acts who have influenced many bands over the years. Now many years later there is another power trio ready to take the world by storm, they go by the name of Fury UK!

Front man Chris, wails like Bon Scott (AC/DC) but shreds like John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Dawson pounds his bass like Lemmy (Motorhead) after taking a master class from Rush’s Geddy Lee. As for drummer Adz, he is like the Manchester equivalent to Justin Foley (Killswitch Engage) if he had joined Iron Maiden.

Various rockers of all ages are crammed into the Hark to Towler, the most rocking pub in the North West, to see the boys take to the stage. Hitting the stage they tear straight into “Kruger”, from their latest album “Face Of Adversity”, followed up with some more new songs including the epic “Breakthrough” and “Natural Disaster”. Not many bands have the cajones to throw a cover version into their set, Fury UK on the other hand throw in about seven, including an excellent AC/DC medley of “Hell Ain’t A Bad Place To Be” and “Whole Lotta Rosie” and a cracking rendition of Metallica’s “Seek and Destroy”, before ending the first half of the set with the aptly titled “The End”.

After about fifteen minutes the lads were back on stage mixing it up a bit more by playing a Glenn Hughes cover alongside some material off their first album, including the inspiring “Mercenaries”. Followed by a Rush and Journey mash up of “Spirit of Radio” and “Don’t Stop Believing”. With ten minutes left on stage it came down to either a cover of “Free Bird” or something different, and the guys decided to go for the latter, and gave a rip-roaring rendition of Don Henley’s “Boys Of Summer” and to round the night off they played the anthem that is “Death By Lightening”.

All in all, Fury UK delivered a night good old fashioned rock n’ roll, playing their favourites alongside their own future classics. This lot are set for big things indeed; they are the cream of the Manchester metal scene!
