Debut EP from this Cornwall-based quartet
who take the usual guitar, bass and drums structure and add
into the mix sitar, cello, ebow, djembe and theremin for
their self-described ‘psychedelic art rock’.
Musically this makes WEGG quite
interesting with an often retro, laid-back vibe that makes
little concession to the regular song format and instead
builds a wall of sound topped off by the drone vocals of Tom
Hart. This works particularly well on the tracks ‘I’m
Always’ and ‘Ten Years’, the former also highlighting some
impressive guitar work. Whilst references to Jane’s
Addiction and Hendrix in the PR might be a little optimistic
WEGG boast an original sound and there is much to be said
for that alone.
