An industrial /
techno rock trio based out of Seattle, Triptaka have been
around for close on a decade and 'Second War' marks their
debut release. A complex and heavyweight set of songs,
whilst it may not be immediately accessible there is huge
depth and innovation to be found here, notably on the title
track with its energetic rhythms and distorted vocals.
Having already
reviewed their three track sampler elsewhere on this
site (link to the left) I can only really endorse the
comments of the Ian Sutherland who reviewed thate CD. NIN
and Tool are obvious reference points but there is enough
creativity to evidence that the band are not merely clones
of these bands and can make their own mark in the genre. The
stark and haunting intro to 'Mother' provides a glimmer of
light in what is for the most part a dark and brooding set
of songs. Elsewhere, the raw and blistering power of 'Slowburn'
rages whilst the albums stand out cut 'The Source' comes
with a lengthy and at times almost inaudible introduction
that suggests a progressive rock influence before leading
into the anguished howl of 'Falling Down'.
It is hard to
believe that Triptaka have yet to be snapped up by a label
as, with the right exposure, they have the potential to
attract a decent following.
