ManiFesto

Review John Consterdine

Hailing from Austin, Texas it's easy to tell even from listening to just the opening track here, “Piece of Dirt”, that Manifesto’s sound are an instant reminder of both Alice In Chains and Corrosion of Conformity, there's that grungy/Southern Rock theme running throughout. Indeed vocalist Steve Ward is very reminiscent at times like a cross between Phil Anselmo and Layne Staely.

Although there is more to the band that just second rate copyists, “Lifeless” has elements of Tool and early Killswitch Engage style vocals and “Mary Jane” opens with a killer guitar riff. A hybrid if you will of both Slash and Dave Navarro combined with those southern rock vocals and some gut busting drum work.

Overall New Religion Suicide is a well balanced mix of extreme and serene with songs like “16” and “Biggest Burden” showcasing the ManiFesto's heavier side and the almost Maynard James Keenan precision of “Anyone Innocent” showing their much more ambient side. Mixing  elements of grunge and hard alternative with southern rock and even some metalcore, if you’re an Alice In Chains fan then Manifesto are right up your street.
