Concept of Time were formed in the
latter stages of 2006 by Scott MacLean who plays keyboards
as well as seemingly being the artistic member of the band.
Since their inception they have been beavering around
Glasgow garnering support slots with the likes of Korpilaani,
Thunderbolt and the mighty Sabaton. They describe themselves
a,” modern day metal version of Pink Floyd albeit with a
slightly more ad-lib approach, similar to Muse.”
Suffer in Silence is
the name of their first self-financed demo and features four
songs which give an insight into what could be expected of
the band if someone was to throw money at them in order to
clean up the production. Their sound could best be describe
as somewhat grandiose and atmospheric with MacLean’s
keyboards forming a solid base for the rest of the group to
showcase their talents. Each of the songs on Suffer in
Silence clocks in at over the six minute mark which gives
the band the space to express themselves, something they
certainly do but in a good way – there’s not actually much
fat on the bones as there’s a point to the songs,
unlike others I could mention the song length is what it
should be for the song and not just for showing off
purposes.
All four songs on
Suffer in Silence are of the sort that require a number of
listens as they are full of twists and changes in tempo and
it is this repeated listening that proves the Concept of
Time are worthy of further investigation. In places the
Floyd thing is evident but in others there is more of an
anthemic style. Another useful comparison would be Threshold
and this is always a good thing. The band currently have a
new drummer in situ and are in the process of recording a
new CD which should be finished this year and on evidence
thus far, should be well worth checking out.
