The Black Box
Revelation are a Belgian band who are taking the same kind
of route as the likes of The White Stripes, The Gossip and
Jet and mining the past to try and find their future. They
have delved into the sound of the
Detroit garage bands
of the ‘60s and added a bluesy edge to it. While not as
uncontrolled as the likes of Iggy & The Stooges et al there
is plenty of sleazy, distorted guitar and growling (but NOT
grunting!) vocals. The song writing isn’t bad either and the
end result is both noisy and abrasive but appealing and
possibly even commercial these days.
There are four
tracks here, three live of which “Set Your Head On Fire2” is
perhaps the bluesiest and probably the most memorable and a
studio add on in the shape of “I Think I Like You” which
sounds just as raw as the live stuff and just as appealing.
A band to watch then. I wonder how many other decent bands
there are hiding in the rock and roll anonymity of
Brussels?
