Beyond The Grave, who claim to be
“the North’s premier metal band”, are once again unleashing
another audio assault upon the UK in the form of “Sands Of
Desolation”, a brand new EP. Opener “Before My Eyes” is made
up of fast, technical, twin guitar work, hammering drums,
thunderous bass lines and melodic, yet epic vocals, making
it clear as to why they are considered the North’s premier
metal band!
“A Lie For Truth” and
“Sands Of Desolation” show off the bands highlights, very
heavy metal instrumental passages accompanied with a mix of
accessible vocals and the odd growl or two, it works wonders
for the band, think along the lines of newer Arch Enemy,
Bullet For My Valentine or Killswitch Engage, these songs
have that more mainstream metal sound, which isn’t a bad
thing, but it is probably key to their success.
However “Beyond The
Grave” is the real standout track on the release, opening
with raging guitars that Dave Mustaine himself would be
proud of, plus some powerhouse vocals that you could easily
find on an album by Soilwork or The Haunted, topped off with
a real powerhouse mid section that even Machine Head
couldn’t pull off. The melodies and twin guitar elements
used add real drama to the music and give it an epic feel
reminiscent of Iron Maiden. With songs like this Beyond The
Grave can go far beyond their wildest dreams, definitely for
anyone searching for the next British metal band!
