Now
this is with a capital H... Formed from the remains of local
Aberdeen band Filthpact and Bonesaw in the Summer of
2007 Ablach prove to be very much a homage to early
grindcore with a dash of death metal for luck. Their short
sharp and brutally heavy tracks deal with Scottish history,
life and ancestry and are delivered with the expected
explosive vocal delivery of a band of this genre.
This
debut four track demo is all you would expect given the band
's musical stance, short and explosive with a blistering
pace and aggressive vocal delivery. “Bootlicker” is up first
and kicks off with a wall of sound and intense guitar work.
Perhaps suffering from a lack of structure the brutality
however makes up for any such shortcomings “An Unforgiving
Disposition” is up next and proves even shorter, rather like
Nuclear Assault perhaps. “Fir Alban” makes better use of the
dual vocal styles and shows the band's use of melody in a
full on grindcore setting and finally there's “Jus Primae
Noctis”. With a chunky riff within a good song
structure it showcases an element of variety to Ablach and
even hints at a bit of old school thrash mixed n with the
grind , and it suits them well.
All in
all there are faults and room for improvement but, for a
first demo, the potential is there to see. A lot of thought
havs been put into their lyrics and the presentation is
equally as good, from the artwork to the accompanying
information. Within their genre Ablach have a lot of
potential and are already making waves and perhaps,
within the wider metal world, they can do a Napalm Death and
break out to a bigger audience.
