A Broken Robot area four
piece independent outfit from Southend. Formed at college the
band came together thanks to their mutual love of classic
pop music and modern independent punk and indie bands and have since been striving to develop a local
following whilst reaching across the UK playing shows with
bands such as Tellison, The Riverclub and Gavin Osbourne.
When I first slipped the
promo by A Broken Robot into my music system I couldn’t help
getting a little buzz as, over the four tracks on this promo,
there is a wealth of invention, ideas and texture as well as a feeling of naiveté and it’s that approach of just doing what feels
right that makes the bands music such a rewarding listen. “Hey You, Space Ranger”
and “Smoke, Smoke, Smoke” demonstrate this creative approach
in fine style, the drumming is flamboyant and
the guitar parts use techniques not associated with indie or
pop. When was the last time you saw or heard a guitarist
tapping his way through a pop song, if you can’t answer that
with a positive I suggest you check out “Smoke, Smoke,
Smoke”.
Everything about “A
Broken Robot” screams potential. They are just the right
side of quirky to ensure that those who fall for their sound
will do so emphatically making them a band to watch out for
