Christmas Is
Coming.....
You can tell
when Christmas is coming when record labels start releasing
loads of compilation albums by their 'big names' in the hope
of getting loads of money into the coffers without spending
much in getting the product together in the first place.
So let me introduce one of EMI's big hopes for this festive
season. Queen On Fire is a a double live CD or DVD set
recorded at Milton Keynes Bowl back in 1982 when the band
were promoting the then new 'Hot Space' album. The CD and
DVD are both available from October 25th, with the DVD
release featuring backstage interviews with Brian May, Roger
Taylor and of course Freddie Mercury.

Iron Maiden
Get Set For The Road
Iron Maiden will be
back on the road touring in Europe next summer with a series of
Stadium and Festival headline shows.
The full routing is in the final stages but the first three
shows are announced now as they go on sale very soon. These are
the 50,000 capacity Parc Des Princes Stadium, Paris on June 25th
, the 55,000 capacity Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg on July 9th and
Hartwall Arena, Helsinki on July 6th. Support will be announced
at a later date.
As manager Rod Smallwood explains; “The new double DVD, The
Early Days, covers the period of the first four classic albums –
Iron Maiden, Killers, Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind –
and this gives us a fantastic opportunity to give the fans a set
with lots of materiel from those great albums. Every time we
announce a tour there's wide speculation among the fans as to
which songs will be performed and it's always hard to please
everyone as they all have their personal favorites but this time
we're going to be including some songs which we haven't played
for quite some time which I'm sure will get our fans very
excited.
This tour round Europe will be the biggest we have ever done in
terms of the number of fans we will play to so we want to make
it very special. We are taking these first four albums and tours
as the theme for the Production of the show and will be
featuring some of the ideas incorporated in the early days of
the band, particularly on The Beast on the Road Tour and the
World Piece Tour. However everything will be state of the art on
the technical side of screens, lights and PA. This is going to
be huge and a unique treat for our fans….and anyone else!!!”
Says Bruce Dickinson, ”The Dance of Death Tour' was a very
theatrical stage set and performance but this will be back to a
full on Metal spectacular. We've always put everything,
physically and mentally, into our stage shows and this will be
no exception. People are back into REAL live music now and we
want to make sure that the Maiden shows are never surpassed and
an incredible experience for everyone there! It's going to be a
lot fun.'
More dates will
be being announced shortly as and when they are confirmed

Thunder
Announce Christmas Show
Following the
galloping success of the 2003 Thunder Xmas show, the CD, and the
DVD, the band have once again arranged a semi-acoustic festive
appearance. This years show will take place on Wednesday
December 22nd at Nottingham's Rock City. The show, like
last year, will be semi-acoustic in style, complete with tables
and chairs downstairs on the dance floor, for the first 150
people through the doors. Just like last year the show will
feature some lovely guests, the music will be a mixture of
Thunder "version excursions" and weird and wonderful covers, and
also like last year, the show will be recorded (so bring your
best singing voice). Also like last year, all who attend will be
eligible to receive the limited edition Live CD of highlights of
the show. Unlike last year, this CD will not be sold to anyone
else, so it will be manufactured only for those who attend the
show. Also unlike last year, in an attempt to satisfy everyone
who isn't able to attend (poor souls), there will be a separate
CD available for sale later, but this one will not contain the
same tracklisting (we hope this makes everyone happy).
Tickets will be available by THURSDAY morning (21st OCTOBER)
from only the following outlets:-
Rock City Box Office 0115 9588484 or online from
www.rock-city.co.uk
SeeTickets: 0115 9129000 or online from

Judas Priest
have once again pushed back the release date of their new album.
The CD, the first to feature the returning Ron Halford is now
scheduled to hit the shops on 31st January. The reason given for
this delay is to make certain that everything is in place for
the release of the new record i.e. marketing plans, interviews,
video etc.
Following on from
the story regarding the reunited Motley Crue touring the
UK in June of next year, and other dates that have been mooted
in the US, bassist Nikki Sixx has posted the following statement
on the band's official website. "It's
nice to hear that fans, bands, promoters and agents would like
to see a Motley Crue tour. But right now I know Vince is booking
tons of live shows, Tommy is busy promoting a book and doing his
reality show and Mick is in rehabilitation after surgery (Who
knows when and if he would feel up to it even if there was a
tour) It takes four guys to do it. It hasn't happened since
1999. All I know is all four of us haven't been in the same room
in six years. In the world of Motley, id say 'don't hold your
breath'
p.s. Props to whoever made the tour ad I saw on the net.
maybe someday..
Nikki"
Will the shows happen... who knows only time will tell!!

Escape Music
Update
LA Sign To Escape
Founded in the early 80's with an average age of below 20, the
band centred around vocalist/ bassist Jan Achmann and guitarist
Lars Impgaard soon succeeded to become one of the hottest acts
in their home country of Denmark. Even Pretty Maids frontman
Ronnie Atkins for a short time was a member of LA and a first
demo was produced by Skagarack bassist Morten Munch. Those demos
resulted in a record deal with Teleag Records and the debut
album "LA" finally was released in 1985. LA started to play live
to support the release and new songs were demoed soon. Due to
the breakdown of their label and other business affairs, the
band disbanded from the scene in 1986 before the 2nd album was
finished.
A massive amount of e-mails by fans through the internet
requesting "LA" on CD got the band together again in 2003 and
made them remaster their debut album. After several meetings, it
became obvious that the old chemistry still was there. The 80's
demos still had their charm and LA hit the famous Jailhouse
Studios in Copenhagen to re-record those songs with well-known
producer Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Pretty Maids, MSG (Gary Barden),
Grand Illusion etc). Danish National TV2 picked up on the news
of the now middle aged 80's rockers and LA was headlining the
prime time news with the story of making the album and the CD to
come. A deal with Escape Music followed shortly and here we go:
the new album "Unfinished Business" will see the light on the on
06/12/2004.
The strictly limited edition of "Unfinished Business" will come
along as 2-CD and exclusively include the "LA" album as bonus on
the second disc. Even though the band's home base is Denmark,
their sound can be described as American typed hard rock
and will please any fan of bands such as early Riot, early
Virgin Steele, Leatherwolfe and Driver.
The track listing for the albums will be as follows: "Unfinished
Business": Credit Card Lover, High On You, Down The
Cross, Last Night, News On the Loose, Point Of
Uncontrol, Sweet Georgia Brown, Wheelchair 'N' Ragtime,
Gates To The Sky (Live) and Hunted (Live)
"LA" (Bonus Disc): Gates To The Sky, Hunted, 20th
Century, Second Dawn, Times Coming Up, Breakdown,
The Oldest World (Part 1), Winners 'N' Sinners, and The
End
LA are: Vocals & Bass: Jan Achmann, Guitars: Jens Impgaard,
Guitars: Lars Impgaard, Drums: Henrik Rohde Jensen, Keys: Soren
Impgaard.

honourable mention in the booklet of the coming CD! Band members

Z Records
Sign Terrarosa
New York based
band Terrarosa have recently signed a multi album deal with Z
Records. The first fruits of the deal, a self-titled debut album
will be available from November 17th. The press release
for the album describes Terrarosa as "a fusion of Giant ,
The Storm and It Bites resulting in a nail biting rollercoaster
ride through some of the best AOR material recorded in recent
years".
Terrarosa's advance promo actually arrived at Z's offices
during late 2003 and was simply filed away and forgotten, thus
proving that even the ears of A&R staff can be wrong sometimes.
That is until the summer of 2004 when AOR legend Mark Mangold
exchanged regular e mails with Mark Alger which resulted in a
package containing once again Terrarosa The reaction this time
was the complete opposite, in fact everyone at Z was completely
blown away.
Ed Terry, from
Terrarosa, made the following statement about the
exciting forthcoming debut........
"Hi I’m Ed Terry and I`d like to say hello to everyone. I
am very excited about my new solo project entitled Terrarosa..It
will be released on Z records. In November. I would also like to
thank Mark Mangold and Mark Alger for making it happen and
believing in the project.
I am looking forward to touring with the band and the beginning
of a long and prosperous relationship with Z. I can`t wait to
get started."

MTM Update
Micheal Voss and
Gary Barden have given a short track by track account of their
upcoming Silver album entitled 'Addiction' due through MTM on
October 25th
1.Never Let Me Go - a typical 89-ies ´killing joke´
riffing with a hammering bass guitar pattern. Rocks your socks
off. Strange chords, Strange melodies but after two spins it
´never lets you go´. Fabulous opener.
2.Angeline - wonderful lead melody with incredible
classic piano riffings by Donnie. Comes creeping into your ears
like´ Christine´ off the first album. A groove monster like our
mastering guru ´Doc Stickel´ mentioned.
3.I Saw - very evil, very dark. the ´sisters´ mood takes
over. A kind of end fight scenario that leaves no room for
relief or hope. Try to find a chorus.. It's not there, very
innovating song structure.
4.Finish What You Started - the drum loops and the groove
keep the beat alive and let you swing. The vocals seem to rap
but are still in control. Fat beats with an astonishing power
chorus. The bass line doesn't change within the track. Crazy
piece of music
5.Why Did You Come Back - sad,sad tune. Reminds you of
Queen's last painful tracks. It's like a fuge of Bach that never
ends. No chorus just verses. Great screams like Gillan did it
years ago.
6.Addiction - a song about drugs and the ruin of addicts.
Wonderful lead breaks between Don and Tommy Denander. A bit like
in the old Saga days.
7.This Is My Life - epic, big, bigger. What a song, what
an arrangement, cannot find the right words. A masterpiece of
loneliness. The best picture ever been drawn by ´silver´.
8.Leaving Tonight - a rocky version of ´pet shop boys´
lookalike with a tremendous mid break section and crying lead
guitars. Ends with Donnie's fantastic prophet five soli.
9.Breathe - Bowie lives and Gary's got it. Wonderful
tension being built up in 3,30. A classic radio single
10.You Are Mine - another groove killer with all the
basic sounds coming from the eighties and been transferred to
the new century. A disco floor burner like in the old Munich
´sugar shack´ times. Rock on , watch out for ´silver´ .Peace

Michael Vescera
Michael Vescera made
a few brief comments below with regard to his upcoming Safe
haven release due through MTM on October 18th
"I'm very
excited to be able to work on this CD. It's a departure for me
vocally from what I'm most known for, 'Metal'. In the vein of
Journey, Foreigner, etc. it should surprise and excite my
already die hard fans, and hopefully gain a large number of new
ones. This CD will also show my appreciation for other styles of
music. It will be great to work with Eric and the rest of SAFE
HAVEN and create what we hope will be a masterpiece. I'm also
excited to work with MTM on this CD and hope for great success
with everyone involved."

Stormwitch
Press Release
Below is the
press release for the new Stormwitch album ,'Witchcraft' due
through Nuclear Blast on November 15th
Stormwitch is one
of the cult-bands of Heavy Metal and granted us such wonderful
classics like "Walpurgis Night" (1984), "Tales Of Terror"
(1985), "Stronger Than Heaven" (1986), "The Beauty And The
Beast" (1988), "Eye Of The Storm" (1990) "War Of The Wizards"
(1992) and „Shogun“ (1994). During their career the band went
through different phases and were considered by their fans as
the "Masters Of Black Romantic" which in their hearts they have
always remained. With "Shogun" (1994} Stormwitch recorded their
last album before the witch was buried.
But she wasn't granted peace. The band name kept wandering
through the metal press pushed forward by the cover versions of
WHITE SKULL ("Tears By The Firelight") and Hammerfall, ("Ravenlord").
The Swedish chart-breaker had singer Andy Mück appear as guest
performer at the "Bang Your Head" 1998, further a high-quality
best-of-compilation of the first three albums called "Priest Of
Evil" was released, accompanied by interviews which even
guaranteed the band some title-stories.
At that point, singer Andy Mück concentrated on the realization
of a musical. He did recordings for it with guitarist and
songwriter Martin Winkler (ex-Nightwolf). Having written the
song "Dance With The Witches" for a faithful fan set the ball
rolling and Andy thought about a new Stormwitch album for the
first time. Martin and a few friends didn't give up and many
songs were composed which easily took up to their old hymns.
Soon, a fruitful line-up crystallized out of it in which the
often quoted chemistry was right. Marc Oppold (ex-Tyrant) was
first choice when picking a drummer, completed by by the two
former Tyran's Pace musicians Alex Schmidt (keyboards) and
Fabian Schwarz (guitar) as well as his brother Dominik Schwarz
(bass). Martin Winkler recorded the songs in his own studio but
for the final mix Achim Köhler (Primal Fear, Brainstorm) was
chosen.
"Dance With The Witches“ was the first Stormwitch record after
eight years, which documents all facets of Stormwitch in a very
impressive manner and shows us what we have painfully missed
during that period. Stormwitch did their first Live show at the
Italian Badia Rocks Festival, followed by impressing shows at
the Summer Breeze, Wacken Open Air and the legendary Bang Your
Head club show.
Later the band started to concentrate on the songwriting for
their ninth studio album, as well as looking for a new label,
which was found in Nuclear Blast Records. Witchcraft has all
typical Stormwitch trademarks again, a dark and romantic album
with melodies only Stormwitch can write. Andy Mück is one of the
few singers with a personal touch. He has always formed and
dominated the sound of Stormwitch. Just listen to more emotional
tracks like Fallen From God, the incredible title track
Witchcraft or the beautiful ballad Sleeping beauty. On the other
side there are straight headbangers like the opening hymn
Sinister Child, Salome or the mystic Moonfleet. Stormwitch are
more than back, Witchcraft shows once again that the band
belongs to the top of the German Heavy Metal scene and that the
impression cult is made for them!
The witch is alive!!!

Jesse Damon
Talks About New Album
Jesse Damon
recently took time out to run through his new album "Nothin
Else Matters" which was officially released in Europe on October
6th through Z Records
'What Your Doin' To Me' Contemporary hard rock track with
raw guitars, and gritty vocals. This song is heavier than my
previous Material, and fits somewhere between my Hand That Rocks
CD, and Silent Rage's "Still Alive" album. This song is about
all the cheats and cons of this world, and I let em' know that I
know what their doin' to me!
'Messin' With My Head' Upbeat rock track with a slight
modern punk edge, main hooks are slide guitar, and catchy
chorus, good solid production. Hints of Blink 182 and Greenday.
This song is about the cliché girl that prick teases, but says
"lets just be friends," bull shit to that, she's messin' with my
head!
'Good Life' Modern contemporary rock track with strong
melodic vocals, interesting and different style arrangement with
a hard rock edge, and a signature style Jesse Damon guitar solo.
Rivals the likes of Velvet Revolver, and Evanescence. This song
is about finally achieving the good life with the person you
want, and never having to look back again.
'Don't You Know' Melodic rock track with a ballad style
verse, and an explosive chorus, along with emotional vocals and
blazing guitar solo makes this standout song a key fit for a
soundtrack placement, ala Spiderman Soundtrack song "Hero." This
song is about rivalry, and the kind of jealousy it can create!
'I Want You' Modern rock track with energy and
enthusiasm, killer power chord guitars,
and addictive chorus, this is strong song, reminiscent of Sammy
Hagar and a Y&T tune?
This song is about animal magnetism, lust, and going after it!
'Your My Reason For Livin' Dark melodic pop-rock track,
written by Gene Simmons.
This laid back semi-ballad highlights Jesse's vocals,
complimenting it's catchy arrangement, and features an acoustic
guitar solo. This song is about a love story that wasn't meant
to be!
'Fame That's Callin' Contemporary modern rock track with
a melodic 3-part harmony style chorus. Has a flavour and
contrast of style, sounding like Goo Goo Dolls meets Cheap
Trick.
This song is about following your dreams of making it big as a
rock star!
'Nothin Else Matters', Melodic rock track with a darker
feel to it, and this one has a heavier verse with a very
addictive chorus. This song is the title track of the album, and
sends the message I'll do what ever it takes to reach my goal
but not with out the one I love!
'Where You Goin', Dark melodic pop ballad. This song is
diverse in it's feel and arrangement and has a pink floyd
quality to it.
Acoustically driven, with the bass as a major highlight!
This song is about asking the person you were with where are
they going, why are they leaving!
'Rains With Fire' Electronic hard rock track that has
some strange sound effects and has a very floating style chorus
vocals.
Classic Silent Rage lead vocals style on the verses of this one.
This song is about arriving in heaven, what you see, and what it
feels like once your there!
You can find our review of Nothin Else Matters via this
link and Jesse will
be announcing some UK dates shortly during 2004.

Glenn Hughes /
Chad Smith U.K. Tour Dates
As reported last
month Glenn Hughes hits the UK for a series of shows during
December, joining him on the tour is RHCP drummer Chad
Smith. To coincide with the release of "Soulfully Live In The
City Of Angels" on CD and DVD Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple) and
Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) will be playing a string of
dates in the U.K. The album and DVD feature versions of Purple
classic’s "Mistreated", "You Keep On Movin’" and "Gettin’
Tighter" as well as Hughes / Thrall’s "First Step Of Love" plus
"Seafull" and "Medusa" from Glenn’s Trapeze days and songs from
last years "Songs In The Key Of Rock".
Far from simply guesting on the album and tour Chad Smith has
been involved in the writing, arrangements and production of the
releases and his enthusiasm and commitment has been pivotal in
making this U.K. only tour a reality. Chad is looking forward to
playing great shows in (by his standards) unusually intimate
venues. He also drums throughout on the upcoming Glenn Hughes
album "Soul Mover" (Released on Frontiers - in early 2005). Also
appearing on the title track of Glenn’s new album is Dave
Navarro (Jane’s Addiction / Red Hot Chili Peppers) and a video
has been filmed filmed featuring the trio in the California
desert. Navarro described "Soul Mover" as "It’s killer with a
kind of harder Lenny Kravitz vibe to it" on his website.
Glenn, Chad and John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers) recently
recorded a phenomenal version of "Nights In White Satin". This
amazing song features one of Glenn’s greatest ever vocals. Both
this song and the track "Soul Mover" have been mixed by world
famous engineer Jim Scott (Audioslave / Red Hot Chili Peppers).
Glenn has also recently appeared at the L.A. premiere of "We
Will Rock You" along with Brian May, Roger Taylor of Queen and
Steve Lukather of Toto.
Both Glenn and Chad are excited about the upcoming tour and
releases and will be available for interview.

Jeff
Scott Soto Talks About New Album
Following the excellent press and fan responses after the
release of "Lost In The Translation", Jeff Scott Soto speaks
about the songs included on his brand new album :
Believe In Me - This 1 is about having someone you can
truly trust in a world where it’s difficult to find. It’s also
about letting your guard down with someone new after coming out
of a bad relationship.
Soul Divine - This 1 is about not realizing what one has
until it’s gone. Sometimes in life we take for granted how good
things really are & stop working to make it grow, but once you
lose it, you realize the grass is NEVER greener on the other
side.
Drowning - This 1 is about being a very controlled,
imprisoning relationship where the partner gives no room to walk
or breathe.
If This Is The End - This is about a relationship that
has inevitably come to an end, yet there seems to always be
reason found not to completely close the book.
Lost In The Translation - This is about an offering to so
many woman in society today just looking to have fun without
commitment. The lyrics vow no need to worry about falling in
love or getting attached. Pure fantasy.
Doin’ Time - This is about the sexuality & the love
combined, the animalistic side of a loving relationship.
High Time - This is a subtle lyric about escaping the
stranglehold of drugs. I wrote it about so many I’ve known &
seen addicted to substances but finally broke free from it.
Beginning To End - This 1 was written as a tribute to all
the men & woman who have recently left their loved ones for the
call of duty. So many years I can only relate leaving home to
tour with a band so the emotions in this are 1000 times harder
when there’s a chance you may never see each other again.
On My Own - This is about not putting up with someone’s
lies anymore, finally breaking away to live a normal life.
Find Our Way - This is about losing your way, your faith
in life & love, about reaching for someone to help you come back
to the innocence you once knew as a child when everything was
easier & happier.
Sacred Eyes - This 1 is about escaping with your partner
to another world, a paradise that only exists in dreams, a
getaway from the dark realities we live everyday.
Dulce Lady - This 1 is another sexuality lyric that just
gets to the point in what everyone wants every once in a while.

some short updates recording the schedules.
Former Push singer Martie Peters has already finished

release for which is scheduled for January 31st worldwide.
Peters will be performing a few shows together with Mike Tramp
in Denmark during October.
The Greenhouze

has now been pushed back and should be issued during mid
January/February.
Shy have
finished recording their new album “Sunset And Vine” and the
band will be mastering the record this coming Wednesday in order
that the album is ready to be released most probably in early
February. The forthcoming MTM Compilation Volume 10 will
feature a new Shy track.
With the
re-release of the self titled debut album Zeno due in
November, German guitarist Zeno Roth has already finished
recording his brand new album “Zenology II” and the
release will be parallel to the Japanese release date in January
2005 .
Also scheduled
for early 2005: are albums from Seven Wishes with their
new album “Destination: Alive”, Novak with “Forever
Endeavour”, Brunorock with their album “Interaction” and
the new Edge Of Forever record “Let The Demon Rock ‘N’
Roll”, which is already recorded with only vocalist
Bob Harris to complete his parts by the end of October. This
album, which is produced by Bobby Barth should be ready for a
release in May 2005.
MTM's November
release schedule features Zeno's self titled debut due on
November 8th, the MTM Complilation Volume 10 due on November
15th and RPM which should hit the streets on November 22nd

Heartplay Talk About "Where The Deadends Meet":
Kimmo Blom and Sakari Salli from the band Heartplay have just
posted the following update via the MTM website with regards to
their upcoming album release 'Where The Deadends Meet, which is
due to hit the shops on October 11th
"The
whole project started actually last year when our first album
gained some attention. This brought us together after a few
years silence. Sakari had already some musical ideas waiting for
the right context. When the details concerning our deal were
settled we started the pre-production in Sakari's studio.
Basically we "jammed" the songs throwing ideas in and arranged
them following our instincts and not being tied to some certain
style or genre. This is the general idea behind Heartplay. We
want to explore our musical ideas wherever it might lead us,
take for example " Silhouettes". Recording itself went smoothly
and was mainly a great fun. The songs really started to fly and
we seemed to have a mutual understanding how each song should be
played. Speedy Saarinen (our recording and mixing engineer)
really did an excellent job given the time he had. There's
plenty of emotional variety on this album, from a straight
forward rock to deeper moods. Every song stands on its own and
has certain edge. No fillers on this album!!! The title is about
standing in the crossroad and being able to get another chance
to start over again".

Nuclear
Blast
Forthcoming Releases
Nuclear Blast
records have five albums due to released over the next month.
First to be available on October 11th is the new album from
Sonata Arctica, 'Reckoning Night' , that was previewed in last
months news updates. Following this up at one week intervals are
releases from Helltrain (October 18th) with Route 666, the
self titled album from My Early Mustang (October 25th) and one
the same date Mystic Prophecy with 'Never-Ending'

Hot on the heels
of these releases Nuclear Blast will issue the new album from
New York legends Anthrax in November entitled 'The
Greater Of Two Evils'. Recorded “live” in the studio over
the course of two days, THE Greater Of Tow Evils stands out, as
guitarist Scott Ian puts it, “As a raw, balls out, and in your
face representation of how brutal this band is, was, and will
always be.”
Covering their history from 1984 – 1990, Greater of Tow Evils is
made up of fourteen classic Anthrax songs the fans demanded by
way of the thousands of votes from all over the world received
on the band’s official website,
www.anthrax.com. Based on those
votes, the band entered Avatar studios in NYC one cold and snowy
weekend last winter and took a trip back in time to revisit
songs from their formative releases Fistful Of Metal(1984),
Spreading The Disease(1985),
Among The Living(1987), State Of
Euphoria(1988), and Persistence Of Time(1990).
“It was just the five of us in a room ripping. It was intense,”
Ian continues, “like when we first wrote these songs and started
playing them for the first time. Except now the songs have
evolved after years of playing them live to where I wish they
were when we first recorded them. Like good whisky, they’ve aged
wonderfully. There’s so much energy on this record. Busting the
tracks out live in two days was definitely the way to do it.
What’s crazy is when I listen to it it’s like I’m listening to
it from outside the band because it’s made up of all these old
songs that we haven’t played much over the years and I really
only know the studio versions so when I hear John singing them,
it’s like I get to here it from your point of view if that makes
any sense. And let me tell ya, John and Rob are killing on
this.”
“Our fans have been so loyal over the years that we wanted to
give them something special,” explains drummer Charlie Benante,
“so we came up with the idea of letting them pick the songs for
this album. Not to take away from our past, but ever since John
has been in the band, people are always coming up to us and
saying ‘I wish you would re-record this’ or ‘I would love to
hear John sing that,’ so we did it and it came out great.”
A point that lead singer John Bush expounds upon, “When I joined
Anthrax 12 years ago we wrote and recorded Sound Of White Noise.
Although, at that time, we felt we were going to play a lot of
those tunes live, there was still a giant catalog of older songs
for me to learn. From that time until now I’ve embraced those
older songs like they were children of my own. Taking nothing
away from the original versions, because they definitely stand
tall on their own, it felt like a good idea to give the fans the
choice if they wanted to hear new versions of these songs and
which songs they wanted to hear the most. This is not an attempt
to relive the past, just an attempt to kick 'em out with the
21st century line-up of Anthrax.”
And kick ‘em out they do. Well known songs like “Caught In A
Mosh,” “Madhouse,” and “Indians,” get the update as well as
lesser know songs such as “Panic,” “Gung Ho,” and “Deathrider,”
with the latter getting the biggest over-haul. Charlie Benante
explains: “While we didn’t want to deviate too much from the
original recordings, we didn’t want to be strapped to them
either. There are a few changes here and there with “Deathrider”
being the one that stands out the most. On our first album,
Fistful Of Metal, that song is a blast from the beginning to the
end, one speed, that’s it. On the new version it's still fast,
but we pull-up a bit in the verses going to half-time, which
makes it heavier and flow better. No one will be
disappointed…Trust me.”
All the artwork for The Greater Of Two Evils was done by Shepard
Fairey, the subterranean legend best known for his Andre The
Giant inspired Obey graphics. “We wanted something different
this time out,” says Benante who serves not only as drummer and
songwriter but as the resident art director as well. “Our last
two releases we used famed painter Alex Ross who did two
unbelievable covers for us (2003’s critically acclaimed We’ve
Come For You All and their live DVD/CD Music Of Mass Destruction
which was released earlier this year.), and we wanted to go in a
slightly different direction. The cover is very ‘flat,’ in a
good way, and the colors are striking. It will work great as the
cover, in posters, t-shirts, whatever, it's just a cool image.”
Anthrax hopes that The Greater Of Two Evils serves as a history
lesson and a starting off point for the whole new generation of
fans who were turned onto the band over the course of the last
couple of years, something that was quite evident during their
never-ending 2003-04 Music Of Mass Destruction World Tour. On
that tour, which took them to virtually every continent on the
planet including shows in Russia, the Czech Republic, Poland,
and Hungary, the members of Anthrax were noticing that their
crowds were being made up of kids who were not old enough to be
around when the previously mentioned Among The Living was
released some years ago. “Its weird,” says Benante, “when I talk
to our fans I find myself amazed that we have made such an
impact for all these years. When we first started we were kids
with nothing to do who just wanted to play. The fact that we
have been around for a generation and continue to play to
thousands of kids all around the world 9 months out of the year,
I would have never have believed it. I think this album brings
it back full circle.

Chimaira To
Release DVD Collection
Chimaira, one of
the bands at the forefront of the New Wave of American Heavy
Metal, are all set to release their debut DVD through Roadrunner
Records on October 25th. The two disc set will feature an
all access, no-holds-barred feature length documentary (with
optional band commentary), almost an hour of killer live
performance footage captured around the world and all of the
bands videos on disc one, whilst disc two will showcase the
"This Present Darkness" EP. The EP contains seven remastered
songs including two bonus tracks not available on the original
release and additional liner notes from Mark Hunter, vocalist
with the band.
Arch Enemy
To Release EP
Arch Enemy will
be releasing a new EP through Century Media on November 15th.
Titled 'Dead Eyes See No Future' the release consists of live
tracks and cover versions. The EP was initially a Japanese only
release whilst the band were touring in that country. The new
release will feature an extra live track in the shape of “Heart
Of Darkness”, as well as the “We Will Rise” video. Guitarist
Michael Amott comments with regard to the EP, " The decision to make
this EP started to come about after we played a particularly
intense, sold out show at the Elysee Montmartre in Paris in
April, which we were taping. Most of the recording came out
sounding great, so we thought we should give you guys the chance
to own a slice of prime live Enemy, especially for all the
people who haven't seen us play yet!! The inimitable Andy Sneap
was on hand to do the actual live recording, and he also mixed
the whole EP at his studio (where we did all the sessions for
“Anthems...”). The cover songs on the EP - we had a real blast
working out our take on these classic metal tunes, especially
the Carcass song... I was expecting to find it kind of strange
to play it with the AE guys, but I have to say they made an
amazing job of it - in my not-so-humble opinion!! Being a huge
fan of Megadeth, I must admit it’s a tough task to better the
original there…we just did a very, very heavy version of the
song. The Manowar track turned out unexpectedly brutal, this was
always a favourite song of mine from my early “heavy metal
daze”! I love the speed and intensity of this song – it sounds
very Arch Enemy with lots of guitar shredding! So a fairly
spur-of-the-moment idea actually turned into something good
enough to let you guys get your teeth into it - enjoy!!"

Bye bye
September, hello October. September proved to be yet another
great month, in what is turning out to be a very good year for
hard rock and heavy metal. Great releases from the likes of
Saxon, Jeff Scott Soto, Bonrud and many others kept our pockets
empty and our stereos loaded with good music. September was also
the best month so far for
HardRockHouse.com
as
more and more of you stopped by for a visit. We really want this
site to be as interactive as possible so let us know what you
like, what you don't like and what you would like to see added
to the site via our guestbook. We really do appreciate your
feedback.
Hopefully October will prove to be even better month. We
currently have a few new interviews planned as well as the
normal CD and Gig Reviews and the news updates so keep checking
back to find out what is happening.
Finally as you
will see above we have our very first
HardRockHouse.com
T-Shirt available. For those who have already
ordered one then just to let you know they will be in the post
early next week. For those of you thinking of ordering one, then
please do so. This site takes a lot of time and money to keep
updated and although we don't make a huge amount per shirt we do
make a small profit. to help us keep going and as the advert
says 'Every Little Helps'
Shy Update
Tony Mills has just
posted an the following short update on the MTM website with
regard to the bands upcoming new album due through MTM in early
2005.
"There
are a variety of tempos on the album, but the ballad 'Where is
the Love' is a real corker. I like it, I like it !!
'Soul Searchin' & 'Open Your Heart', are two classic AOR mid
tempo trax, 'I Will Be Home' a down tempo moody track, 'Don't
Jump The Gun', the anthemic track out of them all if there is
one, 'First Love' a big harmony fast mover and the other trax
are still being finalized."
The album is called “Sunset And Vine” and will be released
January / February 2005. The new song taken from the "Sunset And
Vine" will be released on the forthcoming MTM COMPILATION Volume
10 mid of November."

Cathedral are
delighted to announce their position as main support act on the
forthcoming HIM UK tour. Fresh from their major slot at the
Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany and with the recent release
of the Best Of Album - "Serpents Gold", vocalist Lee Dorrian had
this to say; "Touring with HIM is really a great thing for us,
we are really excited!" Following these dates the band will
finalize writing work for their debut album for the Nuclear
Blast label ;, tentatively titled 'Seeds Of Decay', which is
slated for a Feb/March 2005 release.
3 Inches Of Blood have parted ways with both of their
guitarists. The band, who release a new album entitled Advance &
Vanquish later this month have released the following press
statement with regard to the situation: "I'm
sure you've all heard various gossip about the band over the
past couple of months and until now we haven't said anything to
clarify some of the stories. To confirm, Bobby Froese and Sunny
Dhak are no longer part of the band. The two of them decided
they could no longer commit to touring and needed to deal with
some personal matters. Naturally, we were all quite shocked and
disappointed by their decision, but after much discussion we
understand why they needed to do this and we wish them the best.
We decided afterwards that we didn't want to call it a day, so
we've recruited the guitar talents of Justin Hagberg from war-metalers,
ALLFATHER, and Shane Clark who plays in TEN MILES WIDE and THE
ALMIGHTY PUNCHDRUNK."
Sacred Heart,
the UK hard rock band based out of Camberley in Surrey are
currently in the process of looking for a new drummer and bass
