RUSH TURNS UP THE “FEEDBACK”;

Rush are to release an album of cover versions on June 29th as part of the celebrations of their 30th anniversary. The record will be entitled 'Feedback' . The press release for this album reads as follows:

"BAND MARKS 30TH ANNIVERSARY WITH FIRST COVERS COLLECTION,
FEATURING VERSIONS OF SIXTIES CLASSICS BY
CREAM, THE WHO, BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD, YARDBIRDS & MORE;

Anthem/Atlantic recording group Rush has unveiled details of their upcoming new collection, dubbed “FEEDBACK.” This unique set sees the renowned trio – Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart – celebrating the band’s 30th anniversary by performing cover versions of eight rock classics from the Sixties. “FEEDBACK” is slated to arrive in stores on June 29.
“Geddy, Alex, and I were channeling back to 1966 and 1967, when we were thirteen- and fourteen-year-old beginners,” writes Peart in the liner notes to “FEEDBACK.” “We thought it would be a fitting symbol to commemorate our thirty years together if we returned to our roots and paid tribute to those we had learned from and were inspired by. We thought we might record some of the songs we used to listen to, the ones we painstakingly learned the chords, notes, and drum parts for, and even played in our earliest bands.”
“ FEEDBACK” marks the first time that Rush has recorded songs by other artists and writers. Included are such groundbreaking staples as Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” and “Mr. Soul,” the Yardbirds’ “Heart Full of Soul” and “Shapes of Things,” and the Who’s “The Seeker.” “FEEDBACK” also features versions of two songs which defined the heavy rock power trio tradition that gave birth to Rush – Cream’s explosive take on Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads” and Blue Cheer’s still-extreme rendition of Eddie Cochran’s “Summertime Blues.”
As previously announced, Rush will commemorate their 30th anniversary year by playing dates across North America, as well as in Europe, where they have not performed live in more than a decade. The first leg of the 2004 “An Evening With Rush” tour will kick off on Wednesday, May 26th at the AmSouth Amphitheatre in Nashville, Tennessee, wrapping up with an August 22nd homecoming concert at Toronto’s Molson Amphitheatre. Following the conclusion of the North American trek, Rush will begin their European journey with a series of sold-out shows in the U.K., starting with a September 8th date at London’s Wembley Arena.
Since releasing their self-titled debut album in 1974, Rush has been universally regarded as one of the most inventive and dynamic groups in rock, famed for their virtuoso musicianship, epic soundscapes, and dramatic lyricism. Each of the band’s 24 albums to date – including such acclaimed works as 1976’s “2112,” 1981’s “MOVING PICTURES,” 1996’s “TEST FOR ECHO,” and 2002’s “VAPOR TRAILS” – have been certified gold-or-better by the RIAA. To date, Rush has achieved worldwide sales exceeding 35 million units.

Jeff Beck, the legendary guitarist will be touring the UK in June. Joining Beck on the tour will be Jan Hammer. Although Hammer has contributed to most of Jeff's albums since 'Wired' and they have toured together many times in the USA and Japan, they only ever played one date in the UK. Probably best known for his 90 episodes of Miami Vice music, he burst into the limelight with The Mahavishnu Orchestra, also featuring John McLaughlin and Billy Cobham, and went on to be a major film composer as well as writing for Jeff ( they won a Grammy for the track 'Escape').

MUDVAYNE TAPS PRODUCER DAVE FORTMAN FOR NEW ALBUM

Mudvayne will begin pre-production for the quartet's third, as-yet-untitled, Epic Records release with producer Dave Fortman (Superjoint Ritual, Evanescence). Singer, Chad Gray; guitarist, Greg Tribbett; bassist, Ryan Martinie and drummer Matt McDonough chose Fortman because they felt Dave could combine the band's extreme elements.
"We've been extremely fortunate to work with some amazing producers," says Gray. "Garth Richardson captured the band's raw energy on the first record and David Bottrill gave our music a three-dimensional quality on the second record. For this record, we asked Dave Fortman to produce because we wanted someone who can bring both of those elements together into a sound that's brutal and beautiful."
Scheduled for release this fall, the upcoming album follows the success of L.D. 50 and The End of All Things to Come — both of which were certified gold.
Before heading to The Plant in Sausalito, Fortman plans to spend time with Mudvayne in pre-production. I've found that those first few days are the most important when it comes to setting the album's tone and challenging the band about their goals and fine-tuning the arrangements for maximum emotional impact. Look for Mudvayne's new album to hit stores in the autumn

Whitesnake In The UK

TotalRock.com are reporting that, although nothing is confirmed as of yet, it appears likely that Whitesnake will be hitting the UK for some live dates in October of this year.

Pitchshifter

Pitchshifter will be breaking their indefinite hiatus to be performing LIVE at a handful of UK 'DVD Release Party' shows in support of their 'P.S.I.entology' DVD. The DVD is set to be released on October 11th on the band's own record label. Main comes support from SiKth
J.S. Clayden (PITCHSHIFTER Vocals): “Originally we were just going to have a DVD ‘play-back’ party in the band’s spiritual home town of Nottingham. That quickly turned into a one-off DVD release party show, which snow-balled into a short run of DVD release party shows when the other venues got word. So here we are! The number of shows is limited to keep things special and we’ll have the DVD with us so you can meet the band and get it signed.”

Mark Clayden (PITCHSHIFTER Bass): “We’ve all been very busy with our other projects and are looking forward to taking Pitchshifter on the road again. We’ve done our best to make the DVD something special for the Pitchshifter fans and so we knew we had to do something special for its release. The run of DVD release parties seemed the perfect choice. True fans can see the band play again and get a hold of the DVD early."

The tour dates run as follows.

Oct. 06 – Portsmouth, UK @ Pyramids
Oct. 07 – Cambridge, UK @ Junction
Oct. 08 – London, UK @ Astoria

M3 Announce New Vocalist

M3, the band formed around the former Whitesnake members, Mick Moody, Bernie Marsden & Neil Murray, have announced the vocalist who will replace the recently departed Tony Martin. Thus according to the official website at www.classicwhitesnake.com  "Stefan Berggren, lead singer with Snakes in Paradise and former Company of Snakes frontman will be stepping into the spotlight for the forthcoming M3 dates in June. You all know Stefan's pedigree; he is an excellent blues rock vocalist who knows the Classic Whitesnake material inside out, so will be an excellent addition to the band for these shows. M3 are keen to point out however that this is not a permanent arrangement; the concept that M3 will feature revolving guest players around the core of Moody, Marsden and Murray is still valid."

Earache New Signing: Municipal Waste

Earache is proud to announce its newest signing: Municipal Waste.
Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Municipal Waste are the reigning kings of the New Wave of Crossover. Municipal Waste deliver blazing fast, raw thrash-core in the tradition of DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, "Animosity"-era Corrosion Of Conformity, Nuclear Assault and Attitude Adjustment. All barely in their 20's, the members of Municipal Waste inject youthful energy and humor into a classic genre they were too young to catch the first time around.
With a self-titled EP on Amendment Records, an LP entitled "Waste 'Em All" on Six Weeks Records, and several splits and comps under their belts, Municipal Waste have quickly established themselves as the leaders of a fast-growing scene of bands resurrecting the spirit of the mid-80's Crossover scene.
Fast, furious, and funny, each of Municipal Waste's super-short songs is a memorable anthem to post-apocalyptic mutants, beer, thrash music, or all of the above. The band's dedication is deadly serious yet they are not afraid to bring the fun back into hardcore. Bashing out songs with such titles as "Thrashing's My Business And Business Is Good", "Thrash? Don't Mind If I Do", and "Drunk As Shit", (as well as a split EP whose songs were all based on Kurt Russell films), Muncipal Waste have earned themselves the tag of "party thrash".
Rumors of Municipal Waste's awesome live shows have spread from coast to coast and across the world; the band departs on their first European tour this month. Upon their return to the states, Municipal Waste will begin work on their Earache debut.
Says Earache US boss Al Dawson:
"The Waste are a great match for Earache since they're inspired by some of the very earliest Earache bands. They're bringing a whole new level of energy to a classic style of music and making it relevant to a whole new generation of punk, hardcore, and metal fans."
Municipal Waste had this to say:
"We're bloody chuffed to be working with Earache. Expect nothing short of a raging, toxic, high-speed thrash assault!"

Waysted - Save Your Prayers

This just in from Majestic Rock

Waysted's awesome melodic rock classic `Save Your Prayers` - featuring the vocals of Danny Vaughan, later to gain fame as Tyketto's vocalist - finally gets a ridiculously long overdue CD release this month via Majestic Rock.
Featuring two bonus cuts not available on the original vinyl version, `Save Your Prayers` is to be found high on collectors wants lists...and with very good reason. It's a great amalgam of ballsy hard rock- courtesy of UFO pair Pete Way and Paul Chapman - and superb 80`s AOR melodic rock. This one's a must for all hard rock fans.

Also available  from Majesticrock this month are Big Bertha's `Live In Hamburg 1970, a 2 CD live set featuring Cozy Powell on drums, and NWOBHM classic `Out Of Reach` from Satan off-shoot Blind Fury.

All of these releases are available from the 31st May and further details can be found at www.majesticrock.com

Bowes & Morley Cancel Gigs

In an announcement today on the official Thunder website (www.thunderonline.com) Danny Bowes has confirmed that the Bowes & Morley tour, which as set for June has now been cancelled. Currently none of the scheduled Thunder shows are affected. Danny posted the following on the site in regard to the cancellation.

"It is with deep regret that we have to announce the cancellation of the Bowes & Morley shows in June. I've decided to be as comprehensive as possible in my explanation, in an attempt to provide answers to the inevitable barrage of questions that would otherwise follow this announcement.
I've had a painful back problem since last year, I'm told it's been caused by wear and tear and some old injuries coming back to haunt me. Though not life threatening, it's pretty much constant pain. It has partially responded to osteopathy and physio, but has not gone away, and therefore requires what I'm told is a fairly routine operation to fix it, though in truth the prospect of having someone coming at my spine with a knife does not exactly fill me with joy.
The operation has been scheduled for early June, and whilst it doesn't involve long in hospital, it requires a minimum of 2 weeks rest and recuperation, so I cannot perform throughout the rest of that month. If I rest up I'm assured I'll be OK for the Thunder festival shows in July, and I intend to ensure I am. I've tried to bring the operation forward, but this has proved impossible. This leaves me unable to do the B&M shows, so we have to cancel them. Both Luke and I are gutted, especially after all the hard work that's been put in by everyone involved.
It impacts on the recording of the new LP as well, as I won't be able to sing in the studio for most of June, but the choice is to have the operation and get it out of the way, or wait until later in the summer, when I may miss my slot with the surgeon. To wait until later will not only jeopardise the festivals and delay the LP, it will mean more months of pain, and now I can make it go away, I'd like to.
Essentially, it means that in order to get my back fixed, the B&M shows need to be sacrificed to keep everything else roughly on track. It gives me no pleasure to do it and I know many people are going to be disappointed, but given the circumstances I feel I have no choice. The Thunder summer festival shows and LP recording mean there may be no time this year to re-schedule (though we will try), so it looks like B&M may have to live in legend for the foreseeable future.
Refunds will be available from the places you bought your tickets.
We are truly sorry for any inconvenience and disappointment this will cause, and we hope you understand."

If the turnout on the last tour I was on is any indication, I would advise not waiting to get your tickets on the night, but trying to get them in advance, as several venues were sold out last time.

This year is the 15th anniversary of when Tyketto first got started as a happy little bar band in New Jersey and this tour is going to feature the original Tyketto line up, Brooke, Michael, Jimi, and myself, playing all of "Don't Come Easy" and quite a bit of "Strength In Numbers" as well. In the UK the opening bands will be TEER, and DEADLINE. Can't wait to see you all there!

Before all the unhappy e-mails start pouring in, I need to tell all my friends in Scotland why there is no date for them on the tour.
1. The Garage told us they wouldn't be interested in putting on a Tyketto show.
2. The Cathouse said they would put it on but we would have to pay a huge amount of money (by club standards) just to rent out the use of the club for the night.
3. Not many of you seem to want to be bothered to make the trip out to the Renfrew Ferry.

I'm very sad to say, that, much as I love Scotland, and especially the fans there, it has become a huge financial risk to play there. Glasgow was the only show on the tour with Firehouse that did poorly and it cost us pretty dearly. Well, there you have it. It's not pretty, but it's the truth.
Maybe next time around we can find another venue to play in for you."

Primordial

Primordial, the Irish dark metal band, have inked a new recording deal with Metal Blade records. The band has released the following statement regarding the signing: “We are proud to announce we have signed a world wide deal with Metal Blade Records. After thirteen years in existence this will be our fourth record label and hopefully our last. Some may find Primordial and Metal Blade a strange combination as we have musically relatively little in common with many of the bands on the roster but that’s what makes it such an interesting and challenging combination on so many levels. We had other offers and interest from various labels and it was clear to us we had to step things up with a bigger label . When we looked at things in the cold light the Metal Blade offer was by the far the best and it became clear to us that we were dealing with a genuine label run by Metal fans for Metal fans with a vast Metal legacy over three decades and not with one eye always on the profit margin. We hope to record our next (fifth) album during the Summer/Autumn with famed engineer/producer Billy Anderson here in Ireland for an early Winter release. We have a few European shows here and there before then so until then…vae victis"

Twelve Tribes

Roadrunner Records release the debut album from Twelve Tribes on May 31st. The band, who hail from Dayton Ohio, feature vocalist Adam Jackson, guitarists Andrew Corpus and Kevin Schindel, Matt Tackett on bass and drummer Shane Shook and their debut album will be called 'The Rebirth Of Tragedy' The record company Bio on the band states that 'Twelve Tribes is a form of opposition. Their music challenges the proposition that we should become the epitome of high society. They employ the philosophies of hardcore, metal, hip-hop, and rock in attempt to create something unique. Inspired by the revolutionary sounds of bands like Faith No More, Metallica, Bloodlet, Candiria, Public Enemy, Converge, and Rage Against the Machine, they acknowledge the need for innovation. Twelve Tribes are not here to fill a void in the market place, but to expand the limitations and the expectations of the industry. They demand more from their music. And unlike the course of stale, commercially driven trends, there is a message here that is not overpowered by its own absurdity. There are no love songs there are true expressions about the trials of relationships. There are no cries for help, but calls for change and individuality. The complexity of life, and our ability to render it, is captured both musically and lyrically. Twelve Tribes sound is their own. And as the story began, it will continue, with music that defies conventional thinking and relies on its own integrity."

Century Media Records

Century Media have a busy period coming up at the end of May, as along with the previously reported releases from Dream Evil & Exodus, the label issues albums from Dark Tranquillity, Skinlab and Unholy Ghost on the 31st May.

Dark Tranquillity's release, entitled 'Exposures In Retrospect And Denial' is in celebration of the band's  is a double CD that contains rare and previously unreleased material. With regard to this release the band state "For many years, we've received lots of questions regarding the possibility of our pre-album material ever being released on CD, and we're very happy to provide old and new fans that are interested in the first chapter of our history with a viable alternative to forking out a small fortune on Ebay for a worn-out original copy of the demo or 7" EP.
After a lot of digging though the vaults, the original DAT tapes for our "Trail Of Life Decayed" demo (1991) and "A Moonclad Reflection" EP (1992) were found, and we could happily note that they were intact and had survived the ten years in limbo remarkably well. With the help of some carefully executed mastering magic, the sound quality has been boosted a great deal.
In addition, we have the pleasure of including a couple of songs that were recorded during the studio sessions for our last three albums. Some of these tracks, like "Exposure" and "Cornered", have until now only been available on limited edition versions of the albums, while some others, like "Static", "No One" and "In Sight", are previously unheard by anyone outside the immediate band circle.
As a special treat, we're also including a second disc with more than 70 minutes of live songs (the audio portion of the recently released "Live Damage" DVD. Enjoy!
"Exposures..." comes packaged with an extensive 20-page booklet filled to the rim with exclusive photos from all stages of the band's career as well as liner notes from noted music journalist Chris Dick"

Motorhead

SPV Records have posted the following on their website with regard to the upcoming Motorhead album 'Inferno' due through the label on 21st June.

"Inferno is another uncompromising Motörhead statement, featuring twelve catchy new tracks and the band’s typical rock riffs, rousing solos, thundering drum grooves and Lemmy’s hoarse voice. “Most of the material on Inferno was written by Phil and Mikkey. I contributed the lyrics, almost in a fit of panic, and went on to spoil their ideas as well as I could,” Lemmy explains with his typically British sense of humour. “That’s how it always works with us. If you know Motörhead, you know what we’re about.”
Motörhead wrap their unmistakable rock messages in straightforward tracks like ‘Year Of The Wolf’, ‘In The Black’ or ‘Keys To The Kingdom’, and Lemmy summarises numbers like ‘The Killers’, ‘Suicide’ or ‘Smiling Like A Killer’ in a simple statement: “I dealt with the subject of murder from several different perspectives on Inferno.” It goes without saying that he does this in his intelligent and frequently cryptic style. Lemmy is famous for his critical lyrics but consciously steers away from political subjects: “A lot of people ask me why I don’t get involved in politics. The answer is: because all politicians are bastards! Whether in America or Europe, I don’t trust any of those idiots. The louder they scream, the more stupid they are. I never write political lyrics, but I do write statements about politicians.”
On Inferno, Lemmy enlisted the assistance of none other than guitar genius Steve Vai, who proves his extraordinary talent on ‘Terminal Show’ and ‘Down On Me’. Vai has been a confessed Motörhead aficionado for years and demonstrates that his virtuoso style suits Lemmy & Co. just as perfectly as Slash’s, who, alongside Ozzy Osbourne, put in a guest appearance on March Or Die in the early Nineties.
Motörhead also prove that they are able to see beyond the heavy metal genre: even the title of ‘Whorehouse Blues’ documents that the track is about real country blues, remaining typically Motörhead at the same time."

The band hit the UK for a full tour in November of this year and the following dates have been confirmed:

New Dream Evil

Sweden’s most impressive new generation act DREAM EVIL continue their unstoppable attack towards the throne of Heavy Metal with their third full album in three calendar years, suitably entitled “The Book Of Heavy Metal”. For this recording, the band has kept their original line-up intact. Back for the battle are star-producer Fredrik Nordström (HammerFall, In Flames, Arch Enemy, etc.) and young Greek guitar hero Gus G. (Firewind, Mystic Prophecy, Nightrage, etc.) on guitars, ultra power-melodic vocalist Niklas Isfeldt, pounding bassist Peter Stålfors and drummer-extraordinaire Snowy Shaw (ex-King Diamond / Mercyful Fate, Notre Dame, etc.). The group’s previous two releases, “DragonSlayer” and “Evilized”, have seen them grow as a creative entity, receiving ecstatic praise for their high-quality deliveries by both media and fans and thus becoming one of the leading forces behind the resurrection of Hardrock influenced melodic Metal. After leaving a positive mark with audiences all over Europe for last year’s participation on the HammerFall / Masterplan tour as well as a victorious return to Japan for a co-headlining tour with Kamelot to promote their acclaimed release “Evilized”, DREAM EVIL wasted no time and entered their traditional Studio Fredman location in Gothenburg, Sweden throughout Winter of 2003 / 2004 to record their ultimate offering: “The Book Of Heavy Metal”.  The album will hit the shops on May 24th through Century Media

During 2002 a first demo found its' way to a few magazines, websites and record labels. The response was very encouraging, not only from the press and labels, but also from the music fans.
In early 2003 the band decided that it was time for the first album. Guitarist Jari Salo handled the production duties, as he's been doing studio work for years.
Just to add a little extra flavour to the album, a few guests were invited to take part: three Finnish top lead guitarists, Emppu Vuorinen from NIGHTWISH, Jani Liimatainen from SONATA ARCTICA and Erkka Korhonen from URBAN TALE added their solos to one song each. One of the best metal shouters of the country, Taage Laiho of ALTARIA fame provided backing vocals.
Finally, in February 2004 the album was mastered by Mika Jussila at the world-famous Finnvox studio.
In March 2004 the band signed a deal with MTM, one of the leading hard rock labels in Europe. The label will release the album "Insomnia" in summer, 2004, and it's a must for everyone into melodic hard rock, AOR or even melodic, 80'ies styled metal."
