Overcast is a band that was once one of the pioneers of the now ever-popular Metalcore scene
mixing elements of thrash metal and hardcore scenes
as one and splitting in 1998 before they really made
their mark on the scene.
They are now back together after eight years apart,
during which time erstwhile Overcast alumni spawned
the likes of Killswitch
Engage and Shadows Fall and the revamped line up
on new album Reborn To Kill Again features
Killswitch bassist Mike D'Antonio, former KsE
guitarist, Pete Cortese, and Shadows Fall vocalist
Brian Fair. It was also produced by KsE’s Adam
Dutkiewicz.
This is an album of 11 “classic” songs re-recorded
along with two previously unreleased tracks, and it
is obvious from listening that these tracks are from
an earlier age and perhaps would no longer stand up
along side modern metalcore acts that have raised
the standards of the genre incredibly. That doesn’t
mean it’s a bad album, but it is definitely naively
nostalgic, and aimed at old skool fans and pales in
comparison with the bands that followed and doesn’t
instantly grab you.
Standout tracks are Spun and Your (Destructive)
Self but, with a lack of variety, it all merges into
one long track. An album for original Overcast fans
and KsE/Shadows Fall completists.
