This is fabulous, self-indulgent, honest and yet strangely contagious. An unashamed collection of guitar driven pieces, designed to showcase Marcel Coenen’s undeniable talent. Whilst there are a myriad of vocalists contributing their talents on all tracks, the main focus is without doubt on Mr Coenen, one in a long and highly regarded line of fret board wizards. That is not to say that the album is a single dimension, it features genuinely good songs, but the leaning is toward the guitar. What is either clever, or good market research is the fact that each tune more or less transcends from genre to genre. Thus being the perfect advertising tool, Marcel Coenen, he can play anything. 

And I don’t mean to sound cynical, I genuinely think that this album will be pored over by shred disciples for years to come; such is the diversity of style. “Traumatised To The Bone” features a blatantly “Death” Metal leaning, bouncing off “La Bella Mira” which is the opposite end of the spectrum, a moody emotional dedication to his girlfriend. Almost every known of guitar style is demonstrated with consummate ease and incredible feel and yet this doesn’t distract with the overall quality of the tunes.  

Marcel Coenen is a master of his dark art, a confident songwriter and a sought after player in terms of session work. “Colour Journey” pulls no punches whatsoever and delivers an album of infectious songs injected by a guitar player with fire in his fingertips
