California post-hardcore titans I Am Ghost return with new release ‘Those We
Leave Behind’. From the start of this sophomore
album the melodies and lead lines hit the stereo
like a titan, the 2007 line up change
obviously having a positive effect on the energy of
the band.
Initial track ‘Don’t Wake Up’ begins with blistering
pace and compulsive hooks, and ‘Buried Way To
Shallow’ is a must listen for fans of bands such as
Atreyu and 30 Seconds to Mars. By far though
‘Saddest Story Never Told’ is the most gripping song
on the album. An epic melodic masterpiece it
captures the listener with immense harmonies and
heart wrenching vocal passion.
The only problem with Those We Leave Behind seems to
be the fact that it Is perhaps slightly too long and you seem
to lose track of the music, and although the
remaining songs are just as good as those that went
before, you somehow lose attention and it all just
drains into the background. To
get the full experience of what I Am Ghost have to
offer it
would be best to listen up to interlude ‘Remember
This Face Baby’, then take a bit of a rest from it
and carry on. In saying that it is more than fair to say every single
song on this album is worthy of being the bands next
single. Each song seems to be surpass it's
predecessor in terms of emotion and the lyrical content cries
out to the listener and begs for attention with
every held note and ardent scream.
Those We
Leave Behind
altogether sounds much more mature in
sound than their previous release ‘Lovers Requiem’ and with an oncoming UK tour
alongside Blessed By A
Broken Heart the group look certain to capture a whole new
set of British fans. This is most certainly
a groundbreaking album for the band, and with a new
found direction and energy they most certainly seem
to be going somewhere.
