Mystery surrounds GraVil’s
existence, a meeting that came about between Gra, a certain
London front man who’s band name cannot be revealed under
pain of death, and his mysterious, multi-instrumental,
European friend Vil. Both are skilled enough on their own
but combined they unleash a truly terrific Melodic /
Scandinavian / Thrash metal crossover.
Something Worth Chasing
has been a long time coming but I assure you it has been
worth the wait. Opening track “Through The Eyes Of Spartans”
is like an unholy trinity of Cradle of Filth, Meshuggah and
Pantera, resonating evil vocals, thundering instrumentation
and grade A riffs, an excellent blend if ever there was one.
The EP’s title track is laden with Swedish melodic death
metal influences, encompassing aspects of Soilwork, In
Flames, Dark Tranquillity as well as elements of Entombed
and The Haunted whilst the final two tracks, “Multiverse”
and “Candledark”, sees the duo go off in two very different
directions. In the first instance, “Multiverse”, they go for
a heavier, metalcore style, with beefy riffs and angry
Rottweiler style vocals whereas in complete contrast
“Candledark” has melodic vocals and relies on the power of
the riff.
A very promising start
from this mysterious pair, definitely look out for the full
length album which is coming out later this year.
