“Newcomers Of Sin” is the third album from Swedish death-thrashers Corporation 187 and the opening track “Provoking The Prophet” proves to be a furious five pronged attack from the Swedish quintet, who are like a disturbing mish-mash of the Haunted, Arch Enemy, In Flames and even, at a pinch, Swiss black metallers Celtic Frost.
The doom laden aurora
given off by the title track is pretty impressive sounding
like early Anathema mixed with bits of Emperor and fellow
Swedes Chain Collector. Unfortunately though this is as good
as the album gets and from there on in it becomes
slightly repetitive in the middle, with only “My Sickness”
and “Teaching The Sick, Feeding The Dead” providing
variations from this continuous form. Luckily however the album does
pick up again towards the end with the fantastic “Madhouse” and
the outlet of aggression that is “Virus Nation”.
Overall Newcomers Of
Sin
isn’t al, that bad and it does show signs of a band who are on their way
to up, however to truly progress further the band need to lose the filler and stick to
making killer death metal instead.
