What we have here boys and girls is a re-issue
of the one and only Atlantic album originally
released back in 1994 on the Music For Nations
label. Atlantic were formed around the voice of
Phil Bates, the voice of ELO Part 2 And
Trickster and the guitar playing and song
writing skills of
Simon Harrison.Back in the day the band were at
the forefront of what little UK AOR scene there
was and with this album delivered a classy,
keyboard heavy British AOR album very much in
the vein of Shy, Dare, Heartland and even early
FM.
That Escape have seen fit to
unearth this album after a decade and a half is
much too their credit as the powerful, soulful
voice of Bates deserves to be heard. Think along
the lines of Paul Rodgers or Steve Overland and
you'll get the idea of where he was coming from.
Couple this vocal skill with stunning ballads
When The War Is Over,
Every Beat Of My Heart and the Bad English vibe
of Nothing To Lose along with some great
up-tempo tracks and this album, whilst certainly
of its time, is pure AOR heaven. It certainly
knocks spots off some of the lack lustre
releases from the last few yearswhich have laid
claim to the AOR throne.
