Bruno Ravel - Danger Danger

Bruno, firstly thanks for taking the time to talk to us. I understand that you have been busy in the studio with a brand new Danger Danger album. What’s the latest on that ?

BR: Yeah, we’re in the studio as I type. The beds are done (basic tracks) and we’re moving on to the overdubs, vocals, etc.

So when can we expect the CD to be released ?

BR: From what I gather, it’ll be out during the first quarter of 2009.

And will you once again be handling production and mixing duties ?

BR: Yes, I am producing and mixing the album. I am the engine of Danger Danger, for better or worse =] As far as getting into it more, sure, I’d love to produce other acts… It’s what I enjoy most.

You put on a hugely well received show at the second Firefest and largely stuck to a greatest hits package. Will it be more of the same this time round or have you mixed things up a little ?

BR: Why mess with what works? I think we will most likely stick with the tried and true. We have a limited amount of time on stage and want to play the songs that most of you would like to hear. I know there are some that want us to whip out an obscure track from the past, and I’m all for that, but for this show, I think we’re just gonna go out there and play the “best of.”

How would you feel about airing the new material at Firefest ?

BR: If we had stuck to my original plan which was to have the new album done by May of ’08 and released in August of ’08, yes, we would have definitely played some of the new tunes, but shit happens and here we are in the middle of the recording, so to me, it makes no sense to play any new material at Firefest when again, we have a limited amount of time and no one will know the songs anyway. Next year, we’ll return to the U.K. to do a “proper” tour promoting the new album.

Several bands in past shows have recorded their performance and issued a live DVD and I understand that several are doing so again this year. How would you feel about a live Danger Danger DVD ?

BR: Initially, I was ok with the idea to record a DVD at Firefest, but after discussing it with Steve, I realised that with the way we have our internal business structured, it wouldn’t be worth the headache. Maybe we’ll change our minds in the future…

What do you think Kieran Dargan and the rest of the Firefest team bring to the promotion of such events which make them successful when some other festivals have not proved to be so ?

BR: I think it’s they’re love for the bands, the music and their “no frills” approach. They provide what is necessary to put on one of these shows. The basics, a good venue, travel/hotels and proper gear without going overboard to cater to bands with huge ego’s and overinflated fees. In this day and age, it’s the only way it’ll work.

Do you envisage more of these “package” shows with multiple bands on the bill, especially given the current world economic climate ? For example, would it be viable for you to come back to tour the UK alone in support of the new album ?

BR: Sure it’d be viable for us! The U.S. economy is in the shitter now, and so is the dollar, so everyone else around the world will profit from that. As far as “package” tours? We’re up for that too. We’re very easy going. Treat us fairly, and we’re up for any situation.

I know Ted has been extremely busy with various side projects and solo tours…what about the rest of the band, what other activities are you currently involved with outside of Danger Danger ?

BR: My wife and I just recently welcomed the arrival of our first child 6 months ago, so between doing sessions and changing diapers, I have my hands full these days. There are however, several projects that I have been asked to get involved with for the coming year, so I’ll keep you posted!

I was really surprised that you were not on the bill for Rocklahoma. Was that just a scheduling clash problem ?

BR: Both. We were initially approached early this year about the show and were interested, but for one reason or another it didn’t come together. Scheduling played a major part in it.

In our usual style, are there any final words you have for the HRH readers ?

BR: Thanks for your continued support! Hope you enjoy Firefest, and keep an eye out for the New Danger Danger CD early next year!

Well it just remains for me to say thanks once again for your time. We’re all really looking forward to seeing another great Danger Danger show at Firefest in a few short weeks !!

Paul Williams
